Anybody out there?
Wassup with everyone? I spent today with Microsoft tech support and this infernal tablet. Froze up on a bank website and told me my account was at risk.
Sigh. WAS NOT a Microsoft warning......

Boo! Carolo, I recently received an email message like that about my Chase account. I called the bank, and they asked me to send them the email. It was a scam. Thankfully, I am suspicious of everything. I feel sorry for people who fall for it, and end up handing over their identity. Does your tablet have a virus that made it freeze?

I don't know what it had. The window that came up told me my account was at risk and gave a number to call. I never call a number given without checking first, and it did not show up on dhs phone as Microsoft. So I called Microsoft and they said it was probably a scam...
Took a long time to get the malicious software out!
You were smart about that scam you ran into...

Carolo, I've fallen for a few scams myself. Very frustrating. One was a warning on my mac that I had a virus and to call the number given immediately. They used the Apple logo and it really looked authentic. I called the number. Let the guy have access to my computer , he ran all kind of tests then told me I needed protection (I thought Mac's had no need - good protection came with the computer - I paid a fortune for this laptop) but he said no -I needed more. Then when he asked for my credit card number. That -I was NOT going to give. I told him I was going to take my laptop to the Apple store the following morning - because if was going to have someone do anything to my laptop - I'd rather be there in person . He hung up.
I DID go to Apple the next day and they tested everything. NO VIRUS. What a scam!
Just yesterday I got a scare. I've been bombarded by SunTrust Bank lately with mailings - saying I'm pre-qualified to refinance ...blah! blah! blah! So SICK of this junk mail. The bottom of the literature gave a number to call if I wanted to opt - out of the mailings. I called the number. First thing they asked was my SS number, then date of birth , name and address. I gave it all then thought about it after I hung up.
I then called Suntrust and they said that number was not on their list. I then googled the number and to make a longer story shorter - I mistakenly took the paragraph that spoke of the number being a scam to be the number I called .
My friend told me to call the police and ask what I should do. Would you believe they sent Office Wade to my house to file a fraud report. But when he saw what I had - he knew it was not a fraud . And upon further google checks - it was all spelled out. Yes. When you call to Opt-Out - they ask for all the information they wanted from me.
But here's a great tip - Carolo . GOOGLE the phone number. All you do is type the phone number in question in GOOGLE. They'll let you know if it's a scam It's amazing all the information that's out there to protect us.

I get a lot of calls telling me I'm being sued by the IRS and I need to immediately take care of the fines I owe. My mom was an accountant and I know that the IRS doesn't call you and tell you about fines. You aren't fined until you've gone to court. Also they contact you by mail not phone or email. But what makes them funny is I've been called by Michael Douglas, Steve Martin, George Clooney, and Brad Pitt and it's also funny that they all have very thick Indian accents.

Those IRS scammers called me at work. They told me that there was a warrant out for my arrest. I was hysterical! I finally realized it was a scam when the guy told me that I had to stay on the phone and drive to the bank to withdraw the amount that I owed so the warrant would be voided. Funny, they also had a very thick Indian accent. Bastards!
