on FB I suppose. Looking to ask squiggles or Nash about horses and cold weather. My DH thinks the horses next door could die from just the three days of wet and freezing weather we had.. True?
They ARE used to warm weather...

Are the horses strictly outside day and night? Or do they have stalls that they go into for shelter?
My friends goats and donkey are doing well in these freezing temps we are having right now. They go in the barn at night, and have access to the barn all day . So they go in and out but don't seem bothered by being outside during the day. The donkey stays out more than he comes in . He rarely comes in the barn during the day . As cold as it is, he prefers being outside. I think horses are like donkeys. But I hope they're not out there day and night .

The horses had a three sided shed to shelter them, but a tornado last year turned it into two sides and half a roof. We had rain followed by 20° nighttime temps. DH is a softie. I think they will be ok because it was just a few days. I checked out turnout blankets, but they are near $100 each, and a few days later ya have to chase them down to remove them...

The horses owner is a wonderful young woman who took the horses in thru a rescue program. The animals are fed regularly and get vet care. But my Dh has ideas that I disagree with. After all, horses lived without shelter since forever. We just have an in house debate going on here between us two and I was looking for someone with equine experience. TY for the input!
