Playing a song game on the other pro boards site, brought back a 1964 memory of a Jimmie Rodgers song that used to make me cry. (only he can do the song justice. No sang it like Jimmy)
Two Ten Six Eighteen.

What's your favorite sad song.?

Seasons in the Sun but I forgot who sang it. I could never decide if the person was dying of a disease or was committing suicide.

Oh here's another one for anyone who was a teen in 1965 when it came out.

Then there's Jimmie's "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" and Pat's "Moody River"
I need to quit!

My SON by Gary Pucket and the Union Gap. Gotta go back to the 60s for this one. About a man who raises his son after the mom dies in childbirth only to lose the child to war. Rips your heart out...

The song Cut by the Christian artist Plumb is currently playing on my computer. It's about cutting and self harm which I admit I do identify with. As a teenager and into my 20s I would cut my arms and legs with an X-acto knife as a way to cope with stress and feeling of unworthiness. Add in bulimia and you have a pretty good peek into my past. I've gone beyond that but admit there are times where the urge still strikes me, especially when dealing with the trying times with dad right now. It's also something some of my students are currently dealing with and I've started discussing it to let them know that they can move past it. The song itself is sad because it recognizes the emotions and thoughts that drive people to engage in self harm, but it also reminds me that I'm not alone. It may sound weird but I wish I'd heard the message of this song in the 80s when I started cutting. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ty0SF6jmDf8

Having said that I agree you are a stronger person for having moved beyond it and can now help others who are going through the same things.

What you experienced and know about this condition makes you well equipped to counsel and help other hurting souls who are in your path right now. There's a reason for everything. We don't always see the purpose at the time. Kristan I'm so sorry you had to go through that as a younger person.
