A little nostalgia here.
Are you old enough to remember B/W TVs that had rabbit ears and/or antennas on the roof? There would be only 3 channels to choose from. Color TVs were a luxury. Most TVs came in a console setting and the portable ones were fairly big and clunky.

Yes. I remember. Rabbit ears and an antenna on the roof still worked fine in my Michigan condo all the way to 2007 (when I moved to TN) I never needed cable to get a good reception and I refused to dish out my money for cable for the extra channels.
When I cam to Tennessee. I had no choice. Cable is the only way to get even the most local channels.
And I remember the first TV show I saw in color. It was Bonanza.

I remember black and white TV's and antenna's. We also had a rotar that would change the direction of the antenna so you didn't have to go outside and turn in manually.

Yes, now that you mention it I do remember. Also remember the TV repairmen who would come to our house--imagine! And no remotes! We went to the movies to see thimgs in color

I grew up with a color tv and we got cable when I was in 3rd grade. However, my parents had a B&W antenna tv in their bedroom that was on this rickety rolling cart. My mom would roll it into my bedroom when I was sick so I could watch the kids shows on PBS and the after school specials. I think we got 6 channels (2,4,6,7,9,12).
I also remember that our first cable box had a long cord that attached to the tv and made the loudest clicking sound when you pushed a button on it.
