Just playing around with creating a thread. I f you are reading a book, what is the first line? And book title?
Reading The Guest Room by Chris Bohjalian. First line is:
Richard Chapman presumed there would be a stripper at his brother Philip"s bachelor party.
Who could resist reading further(or farther--whatever is correct)?

I'm reading Crown of Renewal by Elizabeth Moon. It's the last book in a series.
First line is: Winter storms, one after another cut off the high plateau of Andressat from the lowlands around it as Midwinter Feast neared.

The first wail of the infant was so penetrating that the two couples outside the birthing room of midwife Cora Banks gasped in unison.
